TKA+D Honours National Day for Truth and Reconciliation 2026
September 30 marks the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation, also known as Orange Shirt Day.
This day is an opportunity to reflect on the history and ongoing impacts of residential schools, honour Survivors, their families, and communities, and continue learning about truth, reconciliation, and Indigenous experiences in Canada.
At TKA+D, our Indigenous Learning and Reconciliation Committee has gathered a selection of events, resources, and learning opportunities to support meaningful and accessible participation. These include local First Nations events, community walks, ceremonies, film screenings, exhibitions, and self-guided learning resources.
TKA+D will also recognize the day during our October 2 Town Hall, where we will share a meal catered by Salmon n’ Bannock, a local Indigenous-owned restaurant and caterer. Salmon n’ Bannock is owned by Inez Cook, a member of the Nuxalk Nation, and has been sharing Indigenous cuisine in Vancouver since 2010. Their food highlights Indigenous ingredients and traditions, with salmon and bannock carrying cultural significance as foods connected to community, gathering, hospitality, and place.
During the Town Hall, the Indigenous Learning and Reconciliation Committee will also share an update on plans for the year ahead, including upcoming TKA+D Indigenous engagement opportunities.
