Official Opening of the ARENAS at Langley Events Centre

TKA+D was proud to join the Township of Langley, Langley Events Centre, project partners, community sport organizations, and guests to celebrate the official opening of the ARENAS at Langley Events Centre.

The new facility is a major expansion of the Langley Events Centre campus and a significant investment in community recreation for one of British Columbia’s fastest-growing communities. The approximately 260,000 sq. ft. arena complex brings five full-sized playing surfaces together in a compact, stacked configuration: three NHL-sized ice arenas on the lower level and two dedicated dry-floor arenas above.

This first-of-its-kind stacked five-arena complex in Canada was designed to respond to a clear community need: more year-round access to ice and dry-floor sport space for hockey, lacrosse, ball hockey, public skating, tournaments, training, and local sport organizations.

By stacking the two dry-floor arenas above the ice level, the project concentrates a major recreation program on a smaller footprint within Willoughby Community Park, while keeping the new arenas connected within one building. The result is a facility that supports efficient operations, intuitive circulation, and a better experience for athletes, coaches, spectators, and families.

The ARENAS include spectator seating, team and officials’ change rooms, public skating amenities, food and beverage areas, training and meeting spaces, broadcast infrastructure, storage and office space for local sport organizations, and underground parking. Each arena has its own identity while remaining part of a connected campus designed for daily community use and larger tournament events.

TKA+D Architecture worked jointly with RDH Architects on the design, with Lark Group serving as design-build contractor. The broader project team contributed significant technical expertise to deliver the facility’s unconventional stacked structure, long-span arena floors, complex building systems, and community-focused amenities.

The opening marks an important milestone for the Township of Langley and for the many athletes, families, volunteers, and organizations who will use the facility for years to come.
