Tsáá ché ne Dane Cultural and Education Centre
The new Tsáá? Çhé Ne Dane Cultural and Education Centre at Doig River First Nation (DRFN) is a 5,000 sf, two-story, wood frame building located adjacent to the Administration building, new Water Treatment Plant and Passive House Cultural Centre. Designed to reflect traditional lean-to structures the shed roof accommodates solar panels and usable program on the second storey. The program includes two classrooms, computer room, offices, kitchen, lounge/meeting areas, outdoor patio and parking for staff and visitors. The second level is serviced by an accessible lift.
This project is partially funded through the Green and Inclusive Community Buildings (GICB) Federal program and as such shall meet the BC Energy Step Code 3 requirements suited to the 7a Climate zone.
The building envelope is thoughtfully designed and detailed to maintain the continuity of the thermal layer and minimize thermal bridging. Careful consideration is given to material selection, including such parameters as performance, durability, maintenance, embodied energy, availability and cost. The building will have a high-performance ventilation heat recovery, due to inaccessibility to natural gas for DRFN.
TKA+D is working closely with Doig River First Nation’s client representative to ensure the needs of the community are met from start of project to final takeover.
